Today was a MUCH better day than yesterday! My plan of "snacking" every two hours or so worked and I was able to curb my hunger until dinner was done! I went slightly over in calories, carbs, proteins and fats, but the exercise that I did more than made up for that. All in all, not too bad, in my opinion! And, I drank water ... 80 ounces in total! It really wasn't all that hard ... much easier, in fact, than I thought it would be!

Food Diary:
80 ounces water
20 ounces coffee - 6 calories, 0 carbs
3 Tablespoons French Vanilla Creamer - 135 calories, 21 carbs
1 stick extra sharp cheddar cheese - 120 calories, 0 carbs
1 strawberry breakfast bar - 90 calories, 18 carbs
1 package Wheat Thins toasted chips - 100 calories, 16 carbs
1 chicken, mushroom and onion quesadilla - 572 calories, 56 carbs
2 Tablespoons sour cream - 60 calories, 1 carb
2 cups Turkey Hill iced tea - 180 calories, 44 carbs
1 packet pink lemonade protein water - 30 calories, 6 carbs
1 honey nut breakfast bar - 90 calories, 6 carbs

Total Calories: 1,383 (1,200 goal) - difference: +183
Total Carbs: 168 (165 goal) - difference: -3
Exercise: 60 minutes (30 goal) - difference: +30
Calories Burned: 503 (238 goal) - difference: +265
(Over in calories (bad), exercise and calories burned (good!), but under in carbs (good!))

With the calories allowance for the exercise, the numbers look like this:
Total Calories: 1,383 (1,703 goal) - difference: -320
Total Carbs: 178 (234 goal) - difference: -56
Exercise: 60 minutes (30 goal) - difference: +30
Calories Burned: 503 (238 goal) - difference: +265

With the added allowances, I was under in everything, so I feel that this was a pretty successful day!

Oh, and I walked 3,331 steps (or 1.1 mile) and burned 119 calories.

Tuesday, January 6, 2009

Today was horrible! Poor will power was bombarded by an overload of stress at work and I am ashamed of how extremely bad I did with my eating! It was so bad in fact that I gave up even tracking calories and carbs on what I ate! I didn't even try to drink water it was so horrible!

On a good note, I did exercise last night, not as much as I would have liked, but real life got in the way of that. I did about 30 minutes of aerobics and 10 minutes of balance exercises, but no running, strength training or yoga. Part of life that got in the way last night was the unplanned trip to K-Mart. We had a small crisis: Noodle was out of fruit snacks! LOL I did use this to my advantage though, and purchased a really nice Rubbermaid water bottle and some "healthy" snacks to try to help me through the day.

Part of my problem with my eating habits is trying to replace a huge meal with just a "snack". Pre-diet, I would eat a piece of cheese (gotta get that Calcium somewhere! LOL) with my coffee in the morning and that would hold me over until lunchtime, and lunch was always my biggest meal of the day. The past two days, I've been eating something light in the morning and then again at lunch time, but by 2:00 PM or so in the afternoon, I'm starving and I lose what little willpower I actually have. In an effort to tame this, I purchased two flavors of the Kellogg's breakfast bars that are only 90 calories and have 16-18 grams of carbs in them and 100 calorie packs of multi-grain Wheat Thins (16 grams of carbs). I also got some Special K Protein Water Mix. This stuff is low calorie, low carb and has lots of protein to curb hunger. It just mixes with water (HUGE plus for me ... I'd rather drink pink lemonade over water any day!) and it really does work for me. (I tried it after dinner last night and I didn't have the urge for my late night snack, so it must be working, right? LOL)

I don't know the actual counts, since I gave up, but here's the list of what I ate yesterday:

16 ounces water
24 ounces coffee
3 Tablespoons of French Vanilla creamer
Special K Strawberry breakfast bar
3 Twizzlers
Special K Strawberry breakfast bar
4 Duplex cookies
2 Halls vitamin C citrus drops
1 cup of chili
1 grilled cheese sandwhich
2 mini Fruit Rollups
1 Special K Protein water mix

So yeah, you could say I fell off the wagon and rolled down a hill! LOL

I did keep my pedometer on yesterday and I walked a total of 3,963 steps, or a total of 1.31 miles, burning 142 extra calories!!!

Today was the day! I officially started this whole healthier me thing!!! I found a great website: www.myfitnesspal.com and it allows me to track all of my food and water intake and exercise. When I first joined, based on the amount of weight that I wish to lose, it put me on a 1,200 calorie a day limit. WOW! That seems restrictive, but with a little planning I don't think it will be difficult to achieve. Particularly being that I just found out that when you add your exercise for the day, it gives you a calorie allowance, so in my final numbers for the day, I'm actually under what it says I should have! (I told Dobber I had to do a little extra to work off that pizza!!! LOL)

All in all, yesterday wasn't bad at all. I am disappointed in my eating; C here at work ordered a pizza from Dominos and "no thanks" turned into "oh, one slice won't kill me" which turned into "you don't mind if I have another, right?" Two slices of ham, pepperoni, Italian sausage, tomato and mushroom pizza with extra sauce and I felt horrible ... not just because I blew this diet, but physically I just felt ... blah!

I'm also not happy with my water intake, but I'll try again today to make that better. Bottom line, I hate water! I just really, really, really don't like it. Period. On a normal day, I drink 0 ounces. Yesterday, I drank 24 ounces. I think that's an improvement! One of the girls on my mommies group posted that she's shooting for 80 ounces of water per day this week. Seriously, I'm pretty sure that much would kill me! LOL I think one of my biggest obstacles with drinking water is that I just love my Turkey Hill iced tea, which is absolutely loaded with calories, sugar and carbs. Last night, I had 2 glasses, one with dinner and one after. I don't want to cut it out completely, but I would like to get it down to one cup of iced tea a day and replace the other with water. I need to get some fruit next time I go to the grocery store so I can cut that up and put it in my water ... maybe that would help?

As far as my exercise goes, I'm pretty proud of myself! I did over an hour on the Wii Fit, starting with yoga, about 35 minutes of aerobics and then 15 to 20 minutes of balance stuff. I haven't started the strength training yet, mostly because the pictures scared me a little, but after seeing Dobber do some of them last night, they're not quite as daunting. I even ran a mini-race with Dobber for 3 minutes. I seriously don't think I've ran for 3 minutes since they forced me to in high school!

Speaking of Dobber, I've always said that I'm lucky to have him, even when he's being a massive pain in the ass, but last night was further confirmation. Instead of sitting on the couch watching me sweat, he got up and joined me! He's being so supportive and challenging ... challenging because he knows that's what gets me going. Nothing like a little competition to make me work! LOL I do have to admit that I probably giggled a little more than I should have when I was watching him do yoga, but it's just so damn funny!!! He's actually got me excited to do it all again tonight!

Food Diary:
24 ounces of Water
24 ounces of Coffee - 7 calories, 0 carbs
5 Tablespoons of French Vanilla creamer - 225 calories, 35 carbs
3 Strawberry Twizzlers - 113 calories, 26 carbs
2 slices Dominos pizza - 608 calories, 70 carbs
1 cup of chili - 260 calories, 24 carbs
2 cups of Turkey Hill Ice Tea - 180 calories, 44 carbs
1 piece of Icebreakers gum - 5 calories, 2 carbs

Total Calories: 1,398 (1,200 goal) - difference: +198
Total Carbs: 201 (165 goal) - difference: +36
Exercise: 63 minutes (30 goal) - difference: +33
Calories Burned: 559 (238 goal) - difference: +321
(Over in calories and carbs = bad, but over in exercise and calories burned = good!!!)

With the calorie allowance for the exercise, the numbers look like this:
Total Calories: 1,398 (1,759 goal) - difference: -361
Total Carbs: 201 (241 goal) - difference: -40
Exercise: 63 minutes (30 goal) - difference: +33
Calories Burned: 559 (238 goal) - difference: +321

So with the added calories and carbs from the exercise, it doesn't really look like I did too badly being that I'm actually under my goal calories and carbs (GOOD!!!) and still over on my exercise and calories burned!!! I don't know that I necessarily agree that adding the total number of calories burned to my target calorie intake is the way to go, but even if you just add the calories burned in excess of the daily goal, I'm still under on my total calories!

Oh, and another YAY! for me: when I started the ticker, I used the weight that I was when I first used the Wii Fit program on December 27, which was the same as when I was at the doctors the day before. When I started yesterday, I was down 4 pounds!!! Go me!!!

Happy New Year!!!

So, here I am again. I slipped on this whole blog thingy ... again ... but I'm determined to make this work and try one more time!!!

The New Year is upon us, and for me, it seems particularly significant because in less than two months, I'll be thirty years old. This is my thirtieth year of existence ... WOW!!! Its hard to believe I've made it this far; it sure has been one hell of a ride!

My upcoming birthday doesn't scare me as it really is just a number and I really don't feel old (most days). It does, however, inspire me. Over the past couple of days, I've been looking back through the years to see what I've done, what I've accomplished, and working on a list of what I'd like to work on. I've reread my original blog posts and still agree with them. I've also realized that I need to do this now!!!

So, here is my list for 2009 ... I'm sure I'll be editing this to add or clarify things. Call it what you want, resolutions, goals, objectives ... whatever ... I'm calling it 'My List'!

  • Eat healthier foods more consistently.
  • Exercise at least 5 times per week.
  • Start running again.
  • Eat dinner at the table with the TV off at least 5 nights a week.
  • Become more 'green' at home.
  • Work towards becoming more 'green' at work.
  • Devote at least 1 hour every day to family time.
  • Devote at least 2 hours every day to school work.
  • Learn yoga.
  • Paint my nails at least once a week.
  • Have a date with my hubby at least once a month.
  • Have a family day trip to somewhere we've never been or a favorite place at least a month.

I'm trying really hard to keep this list realistic. Notice, I didn't write 'run a marathon'; although I'd like to start running again, I know that a marathon is an unattainable goal for 2009, so we'll focus on the running part for now and maybe the marathon will make it to 2010's list! Baby steps! LOL

I think my list fits me and what I want to accomplish this year. I can see that all of these are 100% attainable, and more importantly for me, they're all measurable. (Yay ... I feel a spreadsheet coming on!!!! LOL I'm such a dork!!!) Most importantly, these are the things that I feel will make me happier with me!!!

A Week in My Life, Fall Edition, Day 5

Wednesday, October 22, 2008

I'm really enjoying this blog thingy! Just a random thought! LOL

Got up this morning, showered and dressed as usual. Bubba scared the crap out of me, which is always interesting first thing in the morning! Noodle was fairly well behaved while I was getting her dressed. We've come to an understanding, Noodle and I. The other day when I was getting her dressed, Monday maybe?, she told me she doesn't like me when I holler at her. And, I told her I only holler at her when she doesn't listen, and I don't like her very much when she's like that. Our mornings have been increasingly better since this conversation took place; now, when she's not listening to me, all I have to say is "do you want me to holler at you?" and she straightens her pretty little butt right up!

Work was soooooo boring. It just dragged on and on and on and on today for some reason. I went to MV's granddad's viewing for a little bit, but those things are never fun. On the way there, I ran into T and N and N promised me a green hoodie!!! On the way back, I was being tailgated by D in his dump truck, who then proceeded to call me and tease me about skipping out on work! I so love my friends!!! Dobber was in a meeting all morning ... maybe that's why I was so bored ... no-one to text with?

After work, I went to M and T's house to to check on M. He's been worrying me. A lot. I hope I'm being a good friend. He's always telling me how much he appreciates what I do for him, and that I'm the only one who listens to him without yelling back. I wish there was something more I could do.

Tonight was the chicken barbecue dinner at the Methodist Church here in town. I had bought tickets last week, and I'm so glad I remembered to pick the dinners up! The chicken was awesome ... I love chicken barbecues! It came with salad, applesauce and a roll, and everything was really good, but I was secretly wishing for green beans!

During dinner, we watched What Happens in Vegas again ... hilarious! And then, it was 2 episodes of Ghost Hunters before I passed out. Dobber says I was asleep at 8, but I think it was more like 9. I was so exhausted all day yesterday, so I needed a good nights sleep. Noodle is in love with Grant from Ghost Hunters and she actually sits still and is quiet while the show is on! Dobber wants to take her to Millington with us on Friday, but I'm not sure she's ready for all that!
